Rachael Cawley
Rachael’s work is concerned with the layering of translucent colour and form built up over time to create ethereal and symbolic imagery. she uses paint, gold leaf, digital media and thread to achieve this.
Her original degree was in education but after 25 years of teaching she returned to the University of the West of England to complete a Masters in Multi Disciplinary Printmaking, gaining a Distinction.
Her work took a total change in direction, from abstraction to figurative work which embraced the concept of “divine feminine” combining the intricacies of pattern with Gothic aesthetics.
She recently retired from teaching and has created a studio at home.
Rachael’s most recent body of work is a change in direction. They are small, 40x40cms plus the frame, acrylic on plywood in white frames, (no glass) and then finished by hand.
Series 1 paintings and prints currently reside at The Penny Brohn Centre in Pill near Bristol.
Series 2 paintings are here at Room 212, priced £345 for the square ones and £395 for the larger 40x50cms rectangular.
