Emma is a Bristol based artist and illustrator with a deep connection to Devon and the South West. Emma’s work aims to share her soul nourishing love affair with nature, which she is drawn to explore both inside the city and beyond it’s boundaries. Even in her more urban artwork you’ll find references to the local wildlife. She is influenced by narrative painting traditions, in particular Mughal miniatures and medieval prayer books, which she enjoys for their inventive compositions and jewel like colours. She mainly works in watercolour and she is inspired by a desire to express the beauty, feeling or humour to be found in her everyday life experiences.
Emma moved to Bristol in 2015 shortly after completing an MA in ‘Authorial Illustration’ at Falmouth, with Distinction. Since then she’s been developing her personal painting practice in tandem with teaching her ‘Mindful painting’ classes for adults and teenagers. Emma has a PGCE in Art and Design and was an art teacher in various secondary schools from 2002 – 2010, including several years as Head of Art at Didcot Girls’ School in Oxfordshire.

For Emma making art is a contemplative practice and her particular interest in both her teaching and her personal artistic practice is the relationship between mindfulness, spirituality, and creativity.
