Aly Dalrymple

Aly’s work is known for being energetic, vibrant and textured.
She first started free machine embroidery at secondary school and
there she found a love for stitch work. She studied fashion textiles
design at Brighton University. Aly worked abroad with three women’s
co-operatives in India and Tanzania. She helped develop design
teams in these organisations to produce new ranges of clothes and
textiles to export and sell abroad, using fair trade principles. Her
designs are now in production and being sold.
Aly is inspired by travel. In her original works she appliqués using
fabrics collected from places in the world she have visited. A range of
contrasting fabrics, recycled saris, silks, indigo-dyed cottons, African
kitenge are all combined in her textiles. She is excited by pattern,
colour and the story behind the fabric. She also uses other textile
media such as screen print, appliqué, felting, embellishment and
Aly is a children’s clothing designer too! She screen-prints organic t-
shirts in her studio In Bristol. Children’s imagination and the love for
the natural world influence the designs she creates. Her range is
bright and playful!
Aly lives in Bristol with her family, her little boy keeps her busy! She
has run a number of art workshops for children. She is available for
