I am a Bristol based Artist currently specialising in animal portraits. I returned to my roots Bristol in 2000 having worked in theatre in London for 25 years. Since my return here I have had more time to devote to my painting, starting with Part Time Foundation at Filton College, then Silk Screen techniques at Bower Ashton, more recently at Spike Print Studios, and Animal Portraiture with Marilyn Millard. I use acrylics, and am also experimenting with digital screenprinting techniques.
Animal portraiture combines my love for them and creating interesting images. I have worked with animals as a dog walker/cat carer alongside my other commitments for many years and also sometimes supply them for photographic, TV and Film work. In my pictures I try to convey the spirit and personality of the animal, which is why I prefer if possible to meet and find out a bit about my subjects, so I can capture a rounded image of them. For that reason I mainly undertake pictures of animals in the Bristol area. I like to represent them in an unsentimental way, but often have the picture set in somewhere of significance, or to include a favourite toy, or maybe a small picture of the owner. I hope with their bright colours and spirit of the subjects they bring a bit of sunshine to all, and are a permanent record of a loving friend.
