I paint in oils, generally on canvas. I am interested in the colour and texture that can be created, and the emotional reactions they can hopefully inspire. I am particularly interested in what lies beneath the surface, both literally, and in the ideas and feelings behind the work. What is hidden is always there, informing the painting whether visible or not.
I also like to break the surface with other materials using perhaps collage, pencil, ink or whatever seems right at the time - this, for me, creates another kind of dynamic or tension. Sometimes the work will be about the external world, as in my ;Mapping Surfaces' series, but more often is about a more internal world which is slightly mysterious even to me. I aim for an integration of all these things.
I have a BA Hons. 2.1 Painting/Fine Art , Faculty of Fine Art, Cheltenham, University of Gloucestershire, 1998. I have exhibited at Gloucester Docks Arts Festival, Summer 1997, and various local exhibitions, and in May 2007 in a group show at the Tobacco Factory, Bedminster.
