Molten Fused Glass will be shown as part of the Treasures exhibition at Room 212 from 7th - 13th February 2010
Molten Fused Glass is created at Nigel Mason's home workshop, which he shares with wife, and fellow glass artist, Joy Mason.
Nigel works with a spontaneity, that makes each piece individual and unique. The rugged coastlines of Gower and Pembrokeshire are a source of great inspiration and his interest in tribal art, particularly Celtic and Aboriginal art, also comes through in his work.
Nigels organic creativity draws on each of the four elements:
Fire - the glass fusing process uses the heat of the kiln to change the form of the glass; Earth - welsh slate and stone form a solid base for standing glass pieces and the canvas for his outdoor earth artworks; Air - oxygen trapped between glass layers during the fusing process creates the delicate bubbles featured in glass pieces. Nigel also plays a wide range of wind instruments and playing and listening inspires his art; Water - a clear source of inspiration reflected in the glass designs and the backdrop for many of his outdoor earth artworks.
