Lara Hawthorne

Lara Hawthorne is currently living and working in Bristol. She graduated in 2013 from Falmouth University where she studied illustration. Since then, she’s been shortlisted for the Lowry Children’s Book Award and has written and illustrated a children’s book called Herberto that has been published in Portugal, Brazil, Slovenia and France. She is influenced by African culture and natural history as well as painters such as Henri Rousseau, Marlenka Stupica and Tove Jansson. She uses gouache paint, which creates flat, matte and bold areas of colour. This paint also allows her to create very crisp edges between the vibrant and energetic colours.
